    Product feature
    1. Crosscontact sole
We researched this sole design extensively in our laboratories, along with a specific rubber formula to optimise grip and traction. We aim for the best compromise for walking on dry and slippery terrain, knowing that the needs are not the same.
    2. Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: tested in laboratory and actual usage conditions, the shoes are equipped with waterproof and breathable membrane to provide optimal protection from rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
    3. Waterproofing level
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry. The Forclaz 500 waterproof passes the 8000 flexes test.
    4. Making waterproofing last longer
A shoe's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. Using waterproof gaiters or mini gaiters, it is therefore recommended to keep your feet dry for longer periods by protecting the top part of your shoes and prevent water from getting in as well as pebbles, sand, etc. Use of a re-waterproofing spray is recommended several times per year. This will help your shoes recover their original water-repellent qualities and combat outer stains.
    5. Buying tips
When taking up hiking, do not hesitate to take a size above your usual shoe size to guarantee an optimal comfort when walking downhill and to prevent your toes rubbing the tops of the shoe. Tip: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the shoe.
    6. What size should I choose?
When taking up hiking, do not hesitate to take a size above your usual shoe size to guarantee an optimal comfort when walking downhill and to prevent your toes rubbing the tops of the shoe. Tip: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the shoe.

In the past I foolishly believed that the more you spent the better the purchased product must be.
I have on many occasions spent 100 - 200 pounds on several leading brands of boot. Now while I found it hard to fault the various brand of boot I believed they were the pinnacle of hiking footwear.
However recently I purchased a relatively 'budget' boot from Decathlon, replacing my brasher supalite. I was perhaps a little sceptical at first thinking the boot could possibly be cheap and nasty.
Now i have used the boots on four outings, crossing wet meadows, hill climbs, rock paths and various other challenging terrain, all passed with confidence and admittedly surprise.
My experience with Decathlon footwear is unanimously positive, using their very highly regarded running shoes as well.Im on my 4th pair already.
Go on all you serious walkers give them a try,if not I fear you are quite possibly what is known as a brand snob.
