The BR classic stirrup pads are rubber inserts for your stirrups, with an anti-slip studded profile. They lie on the footbed of the stirrup and give the sole of your boot grip. You choose them in black or white and in 11 or 12 cm, depending on your stirrup. Meant for riders who want to replace slippery or worn treads without buying new stirrups.
About these stirrup treads
A stirrup pad is the rubber plate in the bottom of your stirrup, on the footbed your boot rests on. That plate delivers the friction between boot and stirrup; the steel or aluminium underneath it is smooth. Because rubber wears much faster than the stirrup around it, the pad is sold as a separate part. If your stirrup feels slippery, it is nearly always the pad that is finished and not the stirrup.
This is the straight model with an anti-slip studded profile. Studs bite in a more pointed way than a flat rib, which you notice most with a smooth or worn boot sole and in wet weather. The pads fit almost all standard stirrups, such as Fillis stirrups. Stirrups with a fixed built-in tread, like many modern aluminium and composite models, are not meant to take a separate pad.
The material is 100 per cent natural rubber, non-toxic and free of PAHs. You get the pads per pair. That is not a detail: two pads of different wear feel noticeably different under your left and right foot, so always replace them together.
You have the choice between black and white. White belongs to the classic look of a polished competition stirrup and stands out at once in a light-coloured stirrup; black stays tidy longer because sand and sweat show up less against it. In how they work there is no difference between the two colours. The sizes 11 and 12 cm follow the inside width of your stirrup, not your shoe size. Both sizes come in black as well as in white.
What you should not expect from this item: it is a part that gets used up. After one or two seasons of intensive riding the studs are visibly flatter and you replace them again. If you would rather have a ribbed profile with rounded end edges, the BR square stirrup pads in 12 cm are the other version within the same range.
