At first, you may not have balance in the muscles you are training and therefore hold the dumbbell(s) at an angle, which can cause the plates to slip off. When you are just starting strength training, we also recommend not to start too heavy right away. This can cause muscle overload and eventually injuries. The plates have a 30 mm hole.
