SILCA Ultimate Tubeless Sealant uses the power of a foaming latex formula combined with chopped carbon fibers to increase sealing power even at higher pressures. Ultimate Tubeless Sealant contains 5% by volume of chopped 6, 9 and 12 mm carbon fibers from recycled bicycles, carbon wheels, racing cars and aircraft components. A unique foaming latex formula allows very light carbon fibers to be dispersed evenly in the sealant during driving, resulting in a higher fiber content than that achieved with Kevlar or fiberglass. With such a high fiber load, the carbon fiber bundles are transported directly to the perforation by the mastic flow, where thousands of microbubbles collapse on top of each other, depositing their high-rigidity carbon fibers on the hole. During this process, the carbon fibers form a dam of fibers against the tire carcass, rather like a dam of beaver sticks blocking the flow of a stream. This high-rigidity, high-strength fiber dam has been shown to seal holes of up to 7.5 mm, 25% more than conventional technologies.
After the puncture has been sealed, an area of carbon-fibre-reinforced latex is left on the top and bottom of the hole, helping to reduce the likelihood of future punctures in this area. This compares favourably with other sealing additives such as corn flour, flakes or glass fibre.
This superior sealing and reinforcing capacity of carbon fiber holes also enables a higher concentration of antifreeze agents in the sealant, which means more effective sealing at low temperatures (6 mm holes seal at 18deg F/ -7deg C), as well as a longer-lasting sealant (7-9 months depending on humidity).
We recommend adding regenerator every 90 to 120 days, depending on the temperature and humidity where you live (see table), to rejuvenate the putty. The regenerator can also be used to renew the sealant on highly porous tires during initial installation. Some carcass tires are highly porous, with sealant seeping through the sidewalls. Tests show that weeping flanks can reduce sealant volume by 30% during installation, while accelerating sealant ageing. Adding 30-50% of the putty volume to the reconstituent can guarantee optimum performance and maximum service life.
CO2 can be used temporarily to seat the tire, but must then be released and replaced by the ground pump to preserve sealant life.
Starting with a clean tubeless tire, use the "pouring" method for installation on a tubeless rim. Fast sealing power makes it impossible to use a syringe or pass through the valve stem. The key is carbon fiber, which rushes to a perforation or open source and creates a dam of coagulating fibers for an extremely effective seal.
Make punctures a thing of the past with the power of carbon fiber-infused putty. Recycled carbon fibers provide a structure that seals larger perforations while maintaining the longevity of endurance-specific formulas.
