SILCA Ultimate Chain Stripper and Wax Prep is a highly concentrated degreaser combined with a wax adhesion promoter (primer) to quickly prepare factory chains for wax treatment in a single step, while improving wax adhesion and chain longevity. SILCA Chain Stripper reduces the time required to less than 10 minutes, as well as the number of chemicals needed to properly treat a factory-lubricated chain. It can even be used on bicycle-mounted chains to prepare them for drip waxing. By far the biggest hurdle for those wishing to switch to a waxed transmission has always been the need to completely remove the original lubricant from the chain for the wax to adhere properly. Traditional methods involve the use of 2 to 3 different solvents and rinsing steps, moving from non-polar solvents that dilute fats and oils to progressively more polar solvents that evaporate rapidly to remove residues. In designing SILCA chain stripper, we started from the end and worked backwards, identifying chemicals that remove grease and oil while promoting wax adhesion to metal. The result is a cleaner that lifts and encapsulates grease and oils, allowing them to be easily rinsed from the metal surface. The result is the world's first wax-optimized chain cleaner that not only removes grease and oil, but also prepares the metal surface for better adhesion of wax-based lubricants. The aggressive "lift and encapsulate" action of SILCA chain stripper allows for 2 quick and easy cleaning options:
Option 1: To hot wax a factory new chain with SILCA Secret Blend hot melt adhesive, simply dip the chain into the stripper and agitate for 30 seconds. Leave to stand for 5-10 minutes and shake again for 30 seconds. Remove the chain from the stripper and rinse with water, then dip the chain directly into the hot wax. The water will evaporate within minutes and the chain will be fully waxed, with an application life up to 30% longer than a chain cleaned by traditional methods.
Option 2: For drip-waxing a new or almost new chain with SILCA Super Secret without removing the chain from the bike. Apply 1 drop of SILCA chain stripper to each chain roller while reversing. Leave for 5 minutes. Crank the handle back 10 times to agitate the cleaner and reapply 1 drop per roller, leaving for a further 5 minutes. Rinse with clean water, making at least 10 turns backwards.
