Simond. Responsible performance

Simond, a natural evolution
The world is evolving, and so is Simond. Faithful to our heritage born in Chamonix in 1860, we are modernising our outlook, guided by our roots. Inspired by alpine style, our approach is more refined, streamlined and modern. An identity driven by four unshakeable pillars: lightness, dynamism, honesty and heritage. In 2025, the brand's mission expanded beyond climbing and mountaineering to cover trekking and ski touring, supporting the diversification of outdoor sports.

Our story
The Simond adventure began in Chamonix with Auguste Simond, the family's first blacksmith. In 1870, his nephew Adolphe founded the first workshop on the banks of the Arve, establishing one of the brand's founding principles: the best designer is the mountaineer. This co-creation model intensified in 1883 with the arrival of Adolphe's brothers, François and Michel. Together, and with the help of Edward Whymper, they quickly propelled the brand onto the international stage.
The era of François Simond marked the transition to mass production, with the launch of two product ranges (one for experts, the other more accessible), guided by a golden rule: safety above all. The range then expanded to crampons and carabiners, a direct result of the technical expertise already in place. Simond's craftsmanship was celebrated in 1929 when the prestigious G.H.M. initiated a historic partnership with the brand to co-create the legendary Lagarde ice axe, confirming its position as an essential partner for the greatest pioneers.
The golden age of mountaineering after 1945 triggered a constant dialogue between Claudius Simond and the greatest mountaineers of his time (Lachenal, Herzog, Terray, etc.). This collaboration gave rise to tools perfectly adapted to the highest peaks: Claudius notably launched his first 12-point model with two front points, the "Everest" crampon, specially designed to meet the needs of Edmund Hillary. This essential alliance between craftsmanship and performance was the foundation for the first ascents of Annapurna and Everest, a principle that still guides Simond today.
When Ludger Simond took the helm, the challenge was no longer just to conquer the highest peaks, but to master new routes. It was the dawn of a new era, driven by a passion for the most committing lines: north faces and pure verticality. Guided by Ludger Simond's vision, the brand supported the evolution of mountaineering, shifting from wood to metal and developing ever lighter, more technical tools alongside the climbers of the era. True to its Chamonix roots and now part of the Decathlon group, Simond continues its commitment: designing, testing and manufacturing as close to the mountains as possible.
For over 165 years, our story has been built on innovation and a deep respect for the mountains. Today, we are opening a new chapter. The world is changing and so is our mission: we are committed to designing products that are ever more high-performing and responsible. This challenge guides our craftsmanship and fuels our commitment to a growing community of enthusiasts: trekkers, ski tourers, climbers and mountaineers.
