The Bowflex Max Total 40 combines the benefits of a stepper and an elliptical trainer. The key difference between the two lies in the movement pattern. On an elliptical trainer, the motion follows an elliptical path similar to walking or jogging. On a stepper, the movement resembles climbing stairs.
The moving handles of the elliptical engage the arms, shoulders, and upper back during training, whereas these muscle groups are largely inactive on a traditional stepper. Stepper workouts focus intensively on the leg and glute muscles.
The Bowflex Max Trainer 40 combines both advantages, turning your workout into an effective full-body HIIT session (High Intensity Interval Training).

Professional coaches guide each session. The display is in English and cannot be set to other languages.
The JRNY app also enables virtual training with countless routes. With “Explore the World” access, you can discover a new route every day. Your performance controls the video speed. For entertainment, you can stream your favorite series or movies via Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, or Netflix. While streaming, your workout data remains visible on the screen.

The moving handlebars offer six grip positions compared to other Max Trainer models. The additional inward-positioned handlebars provide even more upper-body training options. The inner grip particularly strengthens the arms and chest muscles, making upper-body workouts more effective and varied.
In addition to enhancing upper-body training, the leg movement has also been optimized. The dual-rail system ensures greater stability and smoother, more fluid motion, allowing for longer and more comfortable training sessions.
