While it may not feature some technologies found on high-end Shimano models, you can rely on this strong and dependable reel. It will cast medium to large lures like the best of them and, equally importantly, retrieve them powerfully while maintaining the smoothness needed for maximum effect. Or if you prefer, combine it with your light fishing rods for squid fishing in saltwater and have fun with the monsters living in the ocean. The Cardiff fully leverages its ultra-durable HAGANE body. Lightweight and known for its strength, it forms the perfect base for the quality craftsmanship of Shimano, further enhanced by the inclusion of a machined aluminium spool. Even the handle is machined from aluminium. When they designed the Cardiff, weakness was certainly not going to be a factor. Casting is controlled by the Shimano VBS (Variable Brake System), which can be adjusted for the size of your lure, conditions, and your casting style. The 201A, the smallest, is the most versatile caster and can handle light, medium, and large lures; the 301A is a perfect compromise for large lures; while the 401A truly excels with the biggest lures.
