Br Rubberen Ring Voor Veiligheidsbeugel Kleurloos -
Maddelin is the ultimate equestrian store!
Sold and shipped by Sports LAB
This rubber ring is the spare part for the release on the open outer side of a classic safety stirrup, such as the BR Fillis safety stirrup with rubber release. Here you buy the ring on its own, without the leather loop. Meant for riders whose leather loop is still in good condition and where only the rubber has gone hard, stretched or split.
About this rubber ring
A classic safety stirrup differs from an ordinary Fillis stirrup in one respect: the outer arm is open. What holds that opening closed while you ride is a rubber ring that runs from the bottom of the outer arm up to the stirrup eye. The ring keeps your foot in place in the stirrup, but it gives and releases once force comes on it from the outside. In a rider's fall that rubber release opens, so the foot comes free of the stirrup.
That means the ring is not an accessory but a functional part. A stirrup whose ring has gone hard, stretched or split no longer works as it was meant to: the rubber either does not hold the opening properly closed, or it no longer gives. Rubber that hangs for years in the sun and through changing temperatures loses its elasticity, and it does so more quietly than you would want. That is why this item is available separately.
On this page you buy the ring without the leather loop. That is the right choice when the leather loop that holds the top of the ring against the stirrup eye is still supple and undamaged, and you therefore only want to refresh the rubber. If the loop is due for replacement too, or you have lost it, you choose the BR rubber ring with leather loop from the same range, which holds both parts together.
The ring fits a safety stirrup of the classic type with a rubber release. That includes the BR Fillis safety stirrup with elastic, article number 121010, and the principle is the same on a Sprenger Peacock stirrup from our range. Because the build of the outer arm can differ between brands and sizes, it is wise with a stirrup of another make to keep your old ring and lay the new one beside it before you fit it.
Honestly about the limits: this is a rubber part and therefore not an item you buy once. How often you replace it depends on how the stirrups are stored, how much sun they see and how many kilometres are on them. The manufacturer gives no interval for this. So simply check the ring regularly with your fingers: supple and stretchy is good, hard or showing fine cracks is a reason to replace it.
