The Heiniger 31F/23 blade set is a screw-on blade set with a cutting height of 1-2 mm. The fine 31F bottom blade sets that length, while the 23 top blade moves across it. The set screws onto a Heiniger Xperience, Xplorer or Progress. For riders and grooms who want to clip a fine coat short and evenly, right through to the finishing work.
About this blade
Screw-on blades come in two separate parts: a fixed bottom blade and a moving top blade, which you fasten to the clipper head with screws. The bottom blade sits against the coat like a comb and holds the hair at length; the top blade cuts across it. You set the blade pressure yourself, so you can feel when the pair is running too tight or too loose.
You read the cutting height from the first number, because that is the bottom blade. Here that is the 31F. The F is marked on that bottom blade and means fine: it halves the cutting height. A standard 31/23 clips at 2-4 mm, this 31F/23 at 1-2 mm.
The second number, the 23, is the moving top blade. It does not determine the cutting length. In practice: the 31F/23 and the 31F/15 both give 1-2 mm. If you run two sets alongside each other, you are not changing length but changing blade.
Mind the difference between the Heiniger systems. The Xperience, the Xplorer and the Progress work with screw-on blades like this one. The Saphir, the Opal and the Onyx work with snap-on blade sets, which you swap in a single movement without tools. Screw-on blades and snap-on blade sets are not interchangeable.
